SUMMARY:Libros y Amigos
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special holiday talk about Hearts of Fire and Snow and about Latino representation in children’s and young adult novels\, featuring authors Guadalupe García McCall and David Bowles 🎁  \nBooks will be available for purchase. There will be a book signing after the talk. \n🗓️ Friday\, December 19\, 2025 | 6 PM – 8 PM \n📍 Guadalupe Latino Bookstore | 1300 Guadalupe Street\, San Antonio\, TX 78207 \n \n🎁 This book will make a great holiday gift for young readers! Pick up a copy at the Guadalupe Latino Bookstore.  \nThis program is presented in partnership with the Guadalupe Latino Bookstore – the only bookstore in San Antonio’s Westside!  \n\n***\n\n\nAbout the book\nBlanca Montes has goals. She wants to make a difference in the world and accomplish more than her overbearing godfather or spoiled boyfriend think she’s capable of. So when Gregorio Chan\, a handsome and confident new guy\, shows up at her Nevada school\, she is ready for a big change. Greg Chan also has goals\, but they were determined centuries ago\, when two star-crossed lovers took their own lives. Princess Itzac\, who believed her beloved was sent to his death in battle\, and Captain Popoca whose fate was forever tied to Itzac. Popoca was cursed by the gods to cycle through lives until he finds his love reincarnated. And he is now returned to the living as Greg\, with one last chance to complete his love story. Greg and Blanca seem like they could be the perfect couple\, but what if their fate is tied to an ancient tale of star-crossed lovers? \n \nAbout our guests\nBorn in Piedras Negras\, Coahuila\, Mexico\, and raised in Eagle Pass\, Texas\, Guadalupe García McCall is the award-winning author of several young adult novels\, some short stories for adults\, and many children’s poems. Guadalupe has received the Prestigious Pura Belpre Award\, a Westchester Young Adult Fiction Award\, the Tomás Rivera Mexican-American Children’s Book Award\, and was a finalist for the William C. Morris Award and the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy\, among many other accolades. \nDavid Bowles is a queer Mexican American author and translator from South Texas\, where he works as an associate professor at the University of Texas Río Grande Valley. Among his more than forty books are the multiple-award-winning They Call Me Güero and its companion They Call Her Fregona (Kokila)\, as well as My Two Border Towns (Kokila)\, Ancient Night (Levine Querido)\, Secret of the Moon Conch (Bloomsbury)\, and The Prince & the Coyote (Levine Querido). \n\n*** \nMACRI’s programs are funded in part by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture\, Bexar County\, the Mellon Foundation\, the John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation\, Spurs Give\, and individual donors like you! Gracias! \nAs always\, views and ideas shared by presenters do not necessarily reflect those of the MACRI\, its staff\, board\, or funders.
